How do I place a hold?

Answer

Placing a Hold on an Item

If you are a PCC student, you may place a hold on an item whether it is currently on the shelf or checked out to someone else. If the item is checked out to someone else, a hold puts you on a waitlist to borrow it. If the item is not checked out, it will be retrieved from the shelf for you.

To place a hold, follow these instructions:

  1. Start by finding the book in our catalog, and click where it says in green that the book is Available (or in gray that the book is Not Available).

Available book in PCC catalog, showing the word Available as a link to click to make a request.

  1. In the window that pops up, there is a section labeled "Get it." If it says "Please sign in to check if there are any request options," click Sign In and use your LancerPoint login.
  2. When signed in, you will see a Request link. Click that link to bring up the request form.

  1. In the request form you may leave the "Comment" space blank, and just click Send Request.

After placing a hold, please wait for an email confirming that your item is ready before coming to the Circulation Desk. You will have three days to pick up your item once the confirmation is sent to you.

Items that are not available for hold include Instructor Reserves and textbooks. You will not see the option to put these items on hold when viewing them in the catalog. These items must be checked out in person and are first-come, first-served.

If you have any issues putting items on hold, please try the tips on our troubleshooting page, or contact the library.
